sweet sleepy baby

I had a wonderful afternoon photographing this sweet boy recently. The family’s home had amazing light and made for a great indoor location on a cool day. As babies will do he cried and pouted then promptly fell asleep after his mama fed him. I was in awe just watching him and enjoyed admiring him with his parents. Those lips -those toes!

And here are those amazing toes, with his parents’ hands on either side:

Kudos to Kerry!

If you follow my Facebook page then please forgive the overlap but I just had to add this here too. My lovely client Kerry Hannon has just published a new book WHAT’S NEXT: Follow your Passion and Find Your Dream Job, with an author photo by yours truly. I’m so happy for her and happy to contribute in a very small way. You can learn more about the book here. And preview her portrait here:

ooh, baby, baby!

If you know me or have read my blog then you know one of my favorite parts of my wonderful job is working with families over time. I was fortunate enough to do pregnancy portraits of this mama, then newborn portraits of these sweet twins and a few days ago did their 7 month session. We wanted to wait until at least one of the babies was sitting, not a prerequisite for 6-7 mo. portraits but it gives more options all around. You may recognize the portraits in the background ; )

I loved seeing how they decorated the nursery with images of pregnancy and the babies as one week olds too. For those of you wondering about how to frame and hang your portraits, this is a great example of mixing framed images, box mounted ones and a canvas gallery wrap.

snow portraits

Tired of the snow? Or more tired of talking about all that snow? How about portraits in the snow for a change of pace? It was a blast - the kids were a delight and I was glad I had layered up so I could stay warm while photographing. It was a bit tough to change settings with two pair of gloves on though…..

Did ya notice the cool board he’s got? It’s a skateboard without wheels that T. found in a dumpster - it made for an awesome urban snowboard!

DC becomes Tundra?

They’re calling it Snowmaggedon and Snowpocalypse. Click the link to see an amazing NASA image of the snow from space.

Down here on Earth we’re on Day Three of no school and heading into what was already a four day weekend. This calls for creativity all around. And on that note, last night I had my first request for “snow portraits!” As soon as the snow stops pouring from the sky and the winds calm down, I’ll look forward to making that happen. For now, here’s a image of my older daughter with a tape measure, getting ready to asses the first snowfall a couple of days ago:

sneak peek slideshow

I don’t know about you but I plan on carrying the new year’s spirit of catching up, or TCB [taking care of business] as Elvis apparently used to say, throughout much of 2010. Here’s a fun mini-slideshow from a session last summer that I never posted. The historic Congressional Cemetery, where we walked our dog growing up, made for a great location. Thanks to this hip mama for the fab suggestion!

family of four

In the spirit of my January catch-ups I’m posting images of a lovely family from their fall portrait session below. One of my faves is the mama & papa, as a couple on their own - we all need that, right?

Welcome to 2010

January is always my time to catch up from the whirlwind of fall portrait sessions and holiday busyness. In the spirit of getting back up to speed and celebrating a successful year, I’d love to share some images from last fall’s family sessions that never made it to my blog.

Stay tuned for more faves soon and if you’re a Facebook-er check out our new FB page. Please become a fan while you’re there - I’m new to it and would love your support!

Here’s to some good, old-fashioned fall fun on the Capitol grounds:

And lastly, one of my faves, and one that this Mama surprised her hubby with as a holiday gift:

fall fun

It’s been a busy few weeks getting portraits prepared and out to clients and their families. I think perhaps, sorta, maybe, after 7+ years of doing this I’m getting better and better at pacing myself during this crunch time. I thought I’d take a break and share images from some of the many family sessions this fall. This one was especially dear to my heart because my client is a high school friend. We lost contact for many years and ran into one another on the Hill in our new roles as parents. I loved photographing L. with her family and snuggling with her son below. It meant so much to me to see her through my camera as a mama all these years later.

family portraits

I’ve been so busy photographing families that I haven’t had time to share many images lately. Here are some faves from a great session last month at Montrose Park in Georgetown. This little girl makes an appearance as a baby with amazing blue eyes on my website - does she look familiar here?
