a great opportunity
I was thrilled to be selected as a photographer by Opportunity Finance Network to document one of their success stories funding the good work of First Book, which gives children from low-income families the chance to read and own their first new books. I met up with First Book staff at the Washington Middle School for Girls in Anacostia – witness their excitement at receiving the books below:
mother's day
mother’s day is on the horizon – from hallmark to macy’s – we’re reminded to buy something for our mothers. a good thing, of course, but how about treating ourselves?
yes, mamas, it’s time to give yourself the gift of photos of your family – this time with you in the pix!
if you’re reading this now, and are one of the first three to respond by 12 noon wednesday, april 23rd, i’ll gladly offer you a $100 off a portrait session in may for a family of four [so only $325 -my 2004 price!]. the blog is a strange bird – i never know how many of you are actually reading this thing….
indulge me by responding and indulge yourself with a mother’s day gift to remember.
rain or shine
I was so excited about these photos from the weekend that I’m posting three today! Saturday was warm and wet in DC – but we braved the intermittent rain and were rewarded with amazing light and incredible spring colors. Like many families, these guys came back to me for photos when their second baby was born – what a treat to see the first “baby” as a big brother.
april showers even bring
April flowers, and yes, then May flowers.
We took a nice rainy day walk to see these amazing magnolia trees – they always bloom first and make our local park appear dappled by cotton candy. I’ve been playing with my new point & shoot camera and caught a few fun pix of my kids though I like this more contemplative moment of my 7 year old.

a birthday pic
Well, here’s one that sums it up nicely – the glow of the candles, me with my girls and a martini about to be enjoyed! It’s all too rare that I’m in any photos with my children – a common phenomenon in many families and most certainly in ours.
