cousins
I’ll play a little catch up here and share some fall images that I never had time to post. Hard to remember this cool, rainy November day when we’re in the midst of a February springlike surprise.
I’ve photographed this little/big guy every year for the past few years – always with his lovely mama & papa and usually on the Capitol grounds or surrounding area. This year some of their cousins joined the fun too and we met at The Yards Park down along the Anacostia River near the ballpark – what a spot!
Since it was intermittently drizzling we had the place to ourselves which was amazing. We had a great time playing and exploring the park until everyone got too cold and retreated for a warming lunch.
What a treat for me to photograph a family I so enjoy being with and add even more of their wonderful family to the mix!
2010 into 2011
Well, somehow two months elapsed since my last post so why not close the gap a bit and share more images from this fabulous session at the stables? Enjoy!
And…..a very belated Happy New Year to you all! Lots of exciting info to come in the next couple of months so look for more regular weekly posts, new e-blast newsletters, lovely lovey postcards coming via snail mail soon too! Email me to get on the list: info@photopiadc.com
at the stables
I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted to my blog and this one will be brief since it’s my crunch time. I just had to share this one fave from a recent session at a stables in Great Falls. MG was closer to three years old last time I photographed her and I so enjoyed spending time with her as a big first grader and watching how skillfully she rode Piero. More to come soon but now it’s back to the work at hand!
authentic moments
If you know me or have worked with me, then you know my goal is to create authentic portraits….to capture those little moments between siblings, between parents and their children and just being in the present. During our pre-session consultation we discussed capturing the playfulness and joy that this lovely family has together. I think we did just that! I thank you all for taking me to such a fabulous location at the Old Soldier’s Home where we had the beautiful property practically to ourselves.
A year old!
The one year birthday is such a milestone especially for the parents. To go from caring for a teeny tiny newborn to a smiling, sitting and exploring the world little person all within 12 months is truly amazing.
Sweet Lily was an adorable 5 month old when I first photographed her at the MiniSessions at Dawn Price Baby in Georgetown. It was so fun to see her again and capture her at this amazing age with her gorgeous parents. Happy Birthday to all of you!
fall colors
It was so fun to see this sweet, familiar face again – I remembered those beautiful, big eyes, but the rest of her was all girl and no longer baby! We had a great time exploring the beautiful gardens at Meadowlark – still in bloom but with a tease of fall color on the trees. Speaking of color, you can see where a mama’s hard work planning outfits and accessories ahead of time pays off!
brookside babies
I love photographing at Brookside Gardens but I what I really love are these babies! I first photographed their mama pregnant, then the babes as one week olds, then as seven month olds and now as one year olds. It gives me such joy to watch them engage with each other and with the world. They were intrigued by all the simple wonders of nature: watching butterflies, picking up leaves and sticks and even putting stones in their mouths as they played. You remember what rocks taste like, right?
And last but not least, the beautiful couple! I try to photograph parents alone at each session – it’s so important to capture that relationship too. And these two, they are very dear to me as well.
wee brothers for a good cause
I’ve been photographing high school seniors lately but still just love, love those bambinos….and these two were simply scrumptious! I met this lovely family through an auction donation for Capitol Partners for Education. This is an amazing program that mentors kids in underserved communities to ensure success in high school and beyond.
I love being able to contribute to programs like CPE, Metro Teen Aids, and many other local schools and arts organizations by donating portrait sessions. The programs benefit and I get to work with many wonderful people who support their good work.
plaid and polka dots
It’s been an incredibly busy couple of weeks with portrait sessions on weekdays and weekends, meeting with new clients and seeing many old clients again too. I’m gradually catching up with blog posts and wanted to share these faves below from late September.
We had a great time exploring the Capitol grounds, playing and generally being quite silly. These guys were such loving siblings and the big bro sure knew how to get his little sis to laugh.
AND…just I loved their outfits. Take note, all – plaid and polka dots work beautifully together!
senior portraits
This weekend I was lucky enough to photograph another young lady who had been before my camera at a much younger age. Somehow the nine year old who I’d photographed holding her favorite stuffed fox is now a senior in high school and quite grown up. I think her many years of theater gave her a confidence and serenity in front of the camera which made for a more relaxed mood.
C. was really the focus of the session for her senior portraits though I also spent time photographing her younger sister who is very much the poised ninth grader now. E. was heading off to her riding lesson right after the session so we did some portraits in her gear.
This was so fun for me to plan with C. and her mom and to spend time together capturing these amazing ages! Thanks to you all for accommodating me by carrying the harp outside and sitting in tall grass despite the nipping mosquitoes…..
