wee brothers for a good cause

I’ve been photographing high school seniors lately but still just love, love those bambinos….and these two were simply scrumptious! I met this lovely family through an auction donation for Capitol Partners for Education. This is an amazing program that mentors kids in underserved communities to ensure success in high school and beyond.

I love being able to contribute to programs like CPE, Metro Teen Aids, and many other local schools and arts organizations by donating portrait sessions. The programs benefit and I get to work with many wonderful people who support their good work.

Eastern Market outdoor artists

Traditionally, Eastern Market was an indoor market with a farmer’s line outside. Since the 1970′s the number of artists selling their wares outside on weekends has become an integral part of the Market experience. Here are some who’ve been there since the early 90′s. These photos and many others, including archival images, will be on display for the grand re-opening of the Market in late June – check the Market website for details.

Eastern Market

I was recently asked by the Capitol Hill History Project to photograph community members and Eastern Market vendors that they’d interviewed. What a joy of a project! Each time that I make my way through the Market to do a portrait of a vendor I am reminded of my childhood experiences there. Looking through my lens I see Mrs. Calomaris at the produce stall who gave me a banana as a child and now gives one to my kids or the chicken guy my mom secretly called Mr. Handsome. He is still handsome as is his son who grew up working along side him.

good work in DC

Like many photographers I love to help favorite organizations by donating my time, photography services, etc. and Cultural Development Corporation is one of them.

CuDC creates opportunities for artists & arts organizations in D.C. and runs Flashpoint Gallery and Source Theater downtown. I just served on their Gala Committee for the third year and donated a portrait session to their auction- which was one amazing party at the Atlas Saturday night!
